History and Development

Welcome to the Soutsaka College of Management and Technology

The Soutsaka College of Management and Technology (SCMT) is an autonomous educational institute founded on December 2, 2002 to help meet the growing need for vocational and technical education as well as human resource development in the Lao People's Democratic Republic (Lao P.D.R). SCMT operates based on a not-for-profit maximizing philosophy (Maximum knowledge for Maximum People). SCMT is located in the center of Vientiane Municipality, Lao P.D.R and recognized as a center of excellence in vocational and technical education and training. SCMT graduates can be confident of excellent employments prospects.

SCMT was accredited by the Lao Ministry of Education to offer Bachelor and higher Diploma degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Communication, Accounting, Language Studies and carry out research in related fields. We are the first educational institute in Laos to offer Communication Art program.

Lao language is the main medium of instruction and written work, as well as the official administrative language. However, students whose native tongue is not Laotian can follow the same courses conducted fully in English.

SCMT becomes the first ETS’s Certified Test Administration Site (CTAS) in Lao P.D.R in July 2006 and conducted the first TOEFL® iBT test in Lao P.D.R at the Institute in August 2006.

Students who graduate from this institute not only gain technical knowledge but also obtain knowledge in various areas such common skills, communication skills and leadership skills as well as highly motivated. These attributes are acquired through school extra-curricula activities. At SCMT, students are encouraged to participate in school activities in order to refine a particular talent or interest that they have and to become a well rounded individual. We have a few clubs and sporting teams available to students. If a group of students shows an interest in an activity, we will try to form a club to accommodate them.

 

   
Robotic club was created to accommodate computer science students. The aim of the club is to generate creativities and first-hand experience in experimentation with robot for students. Every year, we participate in various robotic competitions at the national level.

The College offers:

  • academic programs leading towards a bachelor, higher diploma degrees or certificates;
  • research work and consulting services to development projects and private companies operating in Lao P.D.R by faculty, and professional staff;
  • outreach activities in partnership with private and public sector institutions; and
  • special programs, conferences, seminars, and short courses.
