SCMT is among the leaders of IT education in Lao P.D.R with a commitment to fostering lifelong learning in the IT professions. We offer undergraduate courses that produce graduates who are highly sought after by the IT industry and who enjoy high levels of employment in Lao P.D.R. Our courses provide a valuable combination of technical knowledge and practical experience that provides the opportunity to develop the skills necessary for success in the work place.

SCMT has strong links with IT industry, both international and local. All courses are developed in consultation with industry to ensure they address the key areas of development in IT and equip our students with the skills needed by the industry. Our teaching staff are experts in their field with years of experience and work with other industry professionals to ensure our students receive the most relevant information.

Our courses are continually being updated to keep pace with the fast moving IT industry. They are current, relevant and consistently the leading programs of their kind in Laos.

Bachelor of Computer Science Program
Short-term Training Courses

:: Bachelor of Computer Science ::

The Bachelor of Computer Science program develops a skill set that spans from theoretical and algorithmic foundations to cutting-edge developments in computing. This degree produces graduates who are knowledgeable and creative, have excellent programming skills, are capable of designing, implementing and maintaining complex software systems, and can readily adapt to new advances in the rapidly changing IT environment.

The program requires students to complete various courses which have minimum credit of 159 along with an internship program. During the internship period, students are expected to conduct IT related research project.

Duration:  5 years (10 semesters)
Requirement:    Applicants shall complete upper secondary education or equivalent
Course Areas:  

Foundation Courses
The foundation courses provide students with a general knowledge about Lao culture, basic laws, political system, psychology, environmental issues, sociology, and philosophy and basic background in math and economics.

Our Core Courses
These compulsory courses will develop the skills necessary to succeed in a dynamic and challenging IT environment.

Computer Science Core Courses
We emphasize the critical thinking skills to design and develop the major building blocks used to construct IT system for business solutions. It will equip students with the capability to define, design and deploy robust and secure IT systems for business solutions. The concepts of integration and architecture are emphasized.

Elective Courses
Electives provide students with the opportunity to explore a topic of interest in greater depth.
Electives courses in the areas of computer science, information technology, information systems or e-commerce are provided by FIT.

Internship and Research
An important feature of the BCS is the internship program at established organizations. The internship program aims to provide students with real working experience in the related area of study, deeper cross-cultural appreciation of business practices and research. The duration of the internship program is a minimum of 2 months.

During the internship, students are required to do IT-related research project. The Project provides students with practical experience to define, design and develop business solutions. Students apply their knowledge and skills to effectively participate in a team effort to complete a challenging focused IT project such as :

  1. Application development – We expect most students to build something – a working system, prototype or proof of concept. Develop a new application or build upon/integrate existing applications into a new system. The focus here is experience in the life cycle of a system from concept through delivery. They will deliver a working, even if small, system.
  2. Technology demo and evaluation – Create a demonstration comparing and evaluating the capabilities of similar or competing technologies addressing a business-IT problem. The focus here is a deep understanding and benchmarking of existing technology or applications.
